Browser Wars “sum up”

9 11 2009

I must say that with the new changes made to Internet Explorer 8 and 7 pro are much needed and appreciated by Web Developers. The interface on IE 8 remains similar to previous versions and tabs are still a feature that will eventually be on every browser. I still prefer Safari to Explorer for speed, reading JavaScript and CSS2 better. The changes made behind the scenes is where IE 8 really stands out. IE 8 is finally CSS friendly and also supports the use of CSS tables. It is also getting rid of pesky document declarations in the of your .

Opera is above average in aesthetics with speed similar to Google Chrome (quick but starts up slower than the Safari and Mozilla. Opera’s interface is head and shoulders above the competition. You truly need to have the browser open and using it to really see why it’s is my favorite. Mozilla Firefox has been my favorite browser for years, so the fact that Opera’s newest release ranked #1 really says something to me.

The #2 browser is Mozilla Firefox. It’s fast loading, reads code well, and has a nice interface. Firefox is easy to use and any beginner to computers could figure out how to use the many features that Firefox has to offer. With hundreds of extensions and add-ons, Firefox is fully customizable. You can set themes, skins, and even download built in applications like the “Web Developer” add-on. There are many more add-ons and finding them are as easy as visiting Mozilla’s website. Again, you have to use this browser to get the true experience that Mozilla Firefox has to offer.

Coming in at #3 is Google Chrome. It has less clutter and is faster than IE8. It features tabs like Firefox and Opera. It also is compatible with smart phones. Though it lacks features in the interface, it is still a strong browser to use.

To finish things up I would like to note that IE8 and Safari are great browsers. They are both simple to use and read code relatively well. IE8 has a few more extras than Safari but Safari is faster loading than IE8. These browsers are worth a look if you have not already used them.
